FoC 019: Why We Love G.K. Chesterton with Michael Lichens

episodenineteen

Since we both love writer, poet, apologist, author and possible saint G.K. Chesterton we thought it’d be fun to devout a whole podcast to talk about him, his life, and his writings. We’re happy to have Michael Lichens here with us today who also happens to be a great fan of Chesterton. Michael is a wealth of Chestertonian knowledge and we try to cover all the major aspects of Chesterton’s writing, politics, and faith. But just as Chesterton himself covered a very broad spectrum of different topics in his writings, so too do we in today’s podcast episode – we even talk about British accents!

Chesterton’s books we discussed:

The Napoleon of Notting Hill

The Man Who Was Thursday

Orthodoxy

The Everlasting Man

The Ballad of the White Horse

The Ball and The Cross

Saint Francis of Assisi

St. Thomas Aquinas

What’s Wrong With the World

Father Brown: The Essential Tales

The Autobiography of G.K. Chesterton

Eugenics and Other Evils

Tremendous Trifles

Michael’s recent article: Chesterton the Poet.

Christy’s post: Introduce Yourself to G.K. Chesterton.

The American Chesterton Society and Gilbert Magazine.

You can find Michael on Twitter. He is editor of Catholic Exchange where he also occasionally writes.  The Catholic Exchange Podcast can be found here.

You can listen to us on iTunes, and we’d love a quick rating or review. If you have an android device we’re also on Stitcher. And as always, you can find all links, show notes, upcoming guests, and listen to all episodes at Fountains of Carrots.com.

  1. Loved the GK Chesterton podcast so much girls.:) It’s feeding my other-than-mothering side. You guys have singlehandedly reinspired this lapsed mega-reader and I can’t wait to start Chesterton. I have Kristin Lavransdatter on hold at the library and I am going with The Man Who Was Thursday, The Everlasting Man, and The Ballad of the White Horse first with Chesterton. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks so much Erin! That’s great to hear! We’re trying to keep our topics really varied so that the podcast stays interesting. I’m sure you’ll really enjoy Kristen, and I hope you love one of those Chesterton books too.

  2. So, I might have cheered out loud when I heard Michael mention The Agrarians. I’m inspired to dig out my old copy of I’ll Take My Stand. Ditto what Erin said about feeding my other-than-mothering side. Loved this episode so much!
