Girls need good books. Everyone needs good books, of course, but since we have both been girls who benefited from friendships with some formative classics we get all fired up about books for girls!
In this episode we realize we could talk for a week just about the Anne books and we discuss why young girls need these authors beside them as they grow up. These are some of the books at the top of our must read list that we will be sharing with our daughters (and sons, but especially our daughters).
So grab a cup of tea or a pile of laundry to fold and enjoy!

I just found the whole Anne of Green Gables collection at Goodwill and will be reading it for the first time….can’t wait!!! Question, I have an 11 year old daughter. I’d like her to read Anne…do you suggest the unabridged version or and adapted version? I’m afraid the language will be a little tough for her. She reads above grade level.
I think at 11 if she’s reading above grade level she could definitely read Anne of Green Gables. And if she’s not feeling it just wait another year and try again, but I wouldn’t go for abridged versions of Anne because L.M. Montgomery’s writing is so beautiful I think they would axe a lot of her beautiful descriptions in order to shorten the book. But that’s just my opinion!
Oh my goodness. This episode was so good for me to listen to tonight, after the kids are in bed, and over my sink full of dishes. My girls and I are abstaining from TV during Advent, except for Sunday’s which will be when we watch all our Christmas movies. But this episodes makes me want to throw the TV out and just read for the rest of our lives, haha! Rash? Probably. But this episode was so fun–thank you for reminding me of my girlhood friends
and all the ways they helped me grow up.
